Karate for Business People
In the hectic world of business, MDs, CEO and top level managers carry great responsibilities and pressure in their daily life. Work never seems to stop and it is a constant stream of problem solving and people management. Sometimes it is difficult just to gather some time to yourself in order to recharge the batteries.
Throughout my work career I have always been in small businesses that have entailed taking on a wide range to responsibilities. Some have been startup operations, which basically mean that you have to turn your hand a virtually everything in order to get the business off the ground. Even once a business is up and running, different challenges are faced day to day.

Training in karate since I was 11 has given me a lot of personal benefits in my private, social and work life.
There are a lot of synergies in how we face and deal with each other within a martial art to how we face and deal with each other in business. Whether it is reacting to, preempting, diverting and resolving issues the same mindset and flexibility is also useful in business and martial arts training.
Some business schools even have even looked to Sun Tzu's The Art of War as a textbook of worth as part of an MBA.
I think training in the martial arts can bring the following benefits
- Provide a period of quality time where you are doing something solely for yourself
- Puts you in a position where you are taking instruction as opposed to giving orders
- Obvious benefits through physical exercise
- Stretching the body can reduce the tightness brought on through stress
- Learn to control your breathing
- Train a mindset that encompasses many principles
Currently I am thinking of holding separate lessons for senior business people to give them a short course in karate, that will work many aspects of traditional karate training but within a smaller framework and time period. If you are interested then please contact me.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat.
If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
